Launching alongside the new BMW iX4 M60 xDrive, the 2027 iX3 M60 xDrive brings M-tuned performance to BMW’s more conventional Neue Klasse SUV.
This is no surprise. The iX4 is essentially a fastback version of the iX3, so sharing powertrains and features makes sense. Both start out with the 50 xDrive dual-motor AWD system, which makes 463 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque, good for a likely conservative 0–60-mph estimate of 4.7 seconds—enough for any driver’s needs.
Should Be Plenty Quick
Like in the iX4 M60 xDrive, this iX3 variant has a dual-motor powertrain that churns out 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. That reduces the claimed 0–60-mph time to 3.9 seconds. Again, BMW is probably sandbagging; count on a result closer to 3.5 seconds. Top speed is also elevated to 149 mph from the 50 xDrive model’s 130 mph.

This is accomplished by actual hardware changes, not just a software tune. The M60 xDrive powertrain’s rear electrically excited synchronous motor has a different stator and stronger inverter than the 50 xDrive, though both versions use the same front asynchronous motor.

More Than Just Power
It's not just about acceleration. The iX3 M60 xDrive gains adaptive suspension dampers for a broader envelope between plushness and firmness than the base iX3’s passive dampers provide. To put power down more effectively, there’s a rear electronically controlled differential. Variable sport steering is supported by different anti-roll bar links and additional chassis bracing. M Sport brakes with red- or blue-painted calipers counteract the swift acceleration.

Heart of Joy, BMW’s high-performance control computer, coordinates various driving systems for reduced latency and more immediate responses. Our early experience in the iX3 50 xDrive indicates Heart of Joy contributes to higher dynamic cohesion than in earlier BMW EVs, which is saying something.
